How Do I Look Up A California License Plate?

Looking up a California license plate is easy. Here are the simple steps you can follow

Find the License Plate Number

First, locate the license plate on the vehicle. The California DMV issues the plates, which are attached to the front and rear of the vehicle.

Enter the License Plate Number

Go to the California license plate lookup and enter the license plate number into the search bar. You may add additional information such as your email address and phone number.

Download and Review the Vehicle History Report

Our system will generate the vehicle history report in under 30 seconds. After that, you may download the report. The report provides detailed information about the vehicle, including accident history, previous owners, title issues, odometer readings, and other relevant details.

The report also identifies the type of license plate the vehicle has (standard, personalized, commercial, etc.) and lists other available plate options in California.

No license plate? No problem, you can use the VIN to get the vehicle history report.

Do you need a front license plate in California?

Yes, California requires that the license plate be displayed on both the front and rear sides of the vehicle. According to the state’s law, if your car is equipped with two plates, you must display both plates – one in the front and one in the back. If you do not display both plates, be prepared to receive a fine.

If you’re buying a used car or want to check the plate details, it’s a good idea to run a quick search.
